Preparing for Birth

Hello ladies!! I miss you all and I'm super excited to get back into blogging after I have my little man and get setttled into my new life as a mommy! Today I am 38 weeks and 4 days, which is crazy that I can have Luke any day now! I'm not going to lie, I'm getting pretty miserable!! I've tried not to complain, because I am truly thankful to be carrying this precious miracle from God...but man my left rib is killing me!!! I can't get comfortable laying, sitting, standing...I'm so ready for him to be on the outside!! :)

Speaking of ready... I told my husband yesterday I didn't know if I was mentally ready for this natural labor, and his response wasn't what I wanted to hear but what I needed to hear. He told me, "You'll be ready when you decide you are. You've been through two birthing classes, read tons of books, and you know God will help you through it." That really helped me remember I have spent the last 9 months preparing to have this baby boy.

So, this morning when I woke up at 5 a.m. (this kid is always on my bladder) I was thinking about what my husband told me and started searching for every Bible verse that had to do with fear, anxiety, strength, and confidence. I think reading and compiling all these verses on one list at the same time really helped put me in the right mindset. I was created to birth this baby.

My husband reminded me of the story of Abraham and Sarah, when she doubted God and God reminded her nothing is too hard for Him.

So, this is my list of verses I will be reading, memorizing, and quoting during my last few weeks of preparation and during my labor. I hope this helps another one of my pregnant friends who has fear about birth as well. It is scary, but remember, is anything to hard for God?!!

Isaiah 41:10 KJV
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Psalms 139:14 KJV
I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

1 Corinthians 2:3 KJV
And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.

Psalms 34:4 KJV
I sought the Lord , and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

Luke 12:7 KJV
But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Philippians 4:6-9 KJV
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.  Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.  Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.

Psalms 56:3 KJV
What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.

1 Peter 5:7 KJV
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

2 Timothy 1:7 KJV
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Psalms 23:4 KJV
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Joshua 1:9 KJV
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

Deuteronomy 31:6 KJV
Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 KJV
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.  Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

Isaiah 26:3 KJV
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

Psalms 127:3 KJV
Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord : and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

Psalms 55:22 KJV
Cast thy burden upon the Lord , and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Isaiah 40:29, 31 KJV
He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.  But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Philippians 4:13 KJV
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

  1. Love this!! I had the same issues before I delivered my son back in January. I am not sure why I was so out of it, since I have 3 other children. I guess it just comes with the idea of labor. I am praying for you and hope that everything goes well!!

  2. Fear gripped me with my first two births, which brings more pain. So this time around I had memorized Isaiah 26:3: "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee". This time I stayed in peace and had a great experience! Amazing!:
When I was tempted to fear (which causes you to tense up, making the birth painful), I kept saying, "I trust you, Lord", and I would relax my body. The key is to stay relaxed.

  3. Lauren, I am 38 weeks today! After 3 babies, I have to say that I still struggle with fear issues as well, even though I know that God is able to carry me through. Thanks for the beautiful list of verses to remind us of God's enabling. My experience has been that when I have gone in to labor, I am so focused on implementing what I have learned and practiced that fear disappears. Blessings on your labor and little one!

  5. My mom had gone late with all 5 of us, and we were all big babies! But it is wonderful, and so worth it!

  6. I just had my wonderful baby at 38 weeks. I had prepared myself mental and physically. Read a lot of books, went to classes, watch YouTube videos and movies, but real childbirth is nothing compared to what they teach you. I was in labour for 28 hours when my baby came. When I was dilated to a six I couldn't take the pain anymore, so I had to take something i am totally against. Im so glad I did now! I also had a hard time breastfeeding and I now have to supplement with formula. Another thing I didn't want. I was starving my baby because I wasn't producing enough milk. Lauren I hope everything is perfect for you and you don't have any problems. But if you need to give into modern medicine or help don't feel bad or helpless. I was hard on myself because I didn't want the epidural and also I only wanted to breast feed, but I found myself almost at an emotional breakdown for how hard I was. If you have to give up on things its ok. Hope all goes well mentally and physically.
