Alright ladies, next month I will be hosting another style challenge on Instagram with my beautiful friend, Melissa (@melbella14). This challenge is going to be a little different though. It's going to be called #fearfullywonderfullymademaystyle challenge. This challenge will be a special two-part one. Half will be style, and the other half, self-image. It's crazy how much body-shaming and criticism is put on us in today's society! It's so easy to focus on our flaws and wish we different. But, I'm here to tell you that you are BEAUTIFUL and God fearfully and wonderfully created you just the way you are! He makes no mistakes! I want us all to challenge ourselves for 31 days to praise and celebrate the physical, personality, and spiritual traits God gave us individually and help other ladies see the beauty in themselves! Simply post your picture on Instagram and list a trait each day along with your outfit, or do a separate post altogether! Meanwhile, Repost this calendar with the hashtag #fearfullywonderfullymademaystyle and tag me (@lauren_modernmodesty) or Melissa (@melbella14) to spread the word! You can also hover over the picture if you're on your computer and pin the challenge to Pinterest! Can't wait until May to see all the beauty shared!
By the way, this challenge is in no way promoting being prideful or conceited. It is about genuinely thanking God for making you the way He did. I don't think God would be upset for us bragging on Him! ;)
My Pastor's wife's birthday was last Wednesday and my Pastor asked me to decorate for her surprise party. Sounds easy, right?...Except for the fact that my Pastor's wife is an AMAZING decorator, like seriously everything she does looks like HGTV did it. I'm over here like umm...I just decorated one wall of my house after living here for like 9 months...Aka, I'm NOT a decorator. I had 5 days to plan decorations for a party for 64 people! Ahhhh! So, I started at Pinterest of course, and found some helpful ideas. I knew I wanted to use wrapping paper as the table runner. So, that was the first thing I picked out.
Here's the paper I picked out for the runners. I found it at Michael's for $6.99 a roll, a little pricey, but so easy to just roll and cut!
Then, I was looking for a cheap centerpiece that would still look classy! I searched on Pinterest and found a cute idea, so I'm going to show you how easy it was to make a $3 centerpiece!
Step 1: Go to Dollar Tree. I found all my items at Dollar Tree. For each centerpiece, you need one vase, one bag of white rocks (You will use about 75% of it), and then one bunch of peonies. (I used pink, because that's what matched my color scheme. But, Dollar tree has many colors).
Step 2: Fill up your vase almost to the rim with the white rocks.
Step 3: Then trim the flower stems down to a little shorter than the vase height.
Step 4: You will use all the flowers on the bunch for one vase. Make sure to push all the leaves to the top, right below the flower.
Step 5: Stick the flowers in, and fluff and move them around as needed.
Here was half of my finished product! I made 8 centerpieces!
I love how the tables turned out! The theme reminded me of a Secret Garden.
Hope you enjoyed this not so normal post! Back to the outfits tomorrow! God Bless! ♥
I have to share this blessing with you all! Today, in church we had a visitor who looked about my age, so when invitation started, the Holy Spirit told me to go witness to her. So, I made my way over to her (across the whole church) and she was very sweet and allowed me to show her through the Bible how she could know for sure she was going to Heaven one day. She sweetly got saved! She told me she wanted to come back to church tonight and learn more about God! Praise God for using me! I love helping ladies on Modern Modesty, but nothing feels greater than knowing God used me to help someone get saved! If you don't know for sure you're going to Heaven, check out what the Bible says and get it settled today!
While I was laying my outfits out for the week, (read here on how I plan my outfits weekly), I noticed a common theme of every outfit: Black and white. So, I figured, hey, perfect opportunity to do a post on 4 different ways to wear black & white!
I am in love with the chicness of black and white, I think it is the epitome of a classy look. So, here are some casual and dressy ways to wear black & white!
Day 13 of #modmodspringstyle: Pencil Skirt
A couple of weeks ago, I was asked by my lovely instabuddy, Ashley from Modestly Hot if I wanted to collaborate with her and some other modest bloggers to come up with a Modest Disney Princess Lookbook. I love Disney Princesses, so that was a no-brainer for me! I was really leaning towards Snow White, but two other ladies did Snow White, so I chose a Princess that I didn't think anyone would do, Tiana from the Princess & The Frog! I know, I know, quite ironic that I'm the fairest of them all! ;) (see what I did there!) But, I had this great, lime green dress that just yelled Tiana to me! So, here's the look I came up with.
I wore a lime green dress with my sparkly gold belt. I found this flower crown at Charlotte Russe for $5 and I knew it would be perfect for the "Tiana" look. I finished off the look with gold wedges and took pictures on a bridge over a swamp! Swamps are definitely Princess & The Frog!
This past week I gave a devotion to my classes on Acts 20:35,
"I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive."
I gave them many examples of people I knew personally that are "givers" and how they are the happiest people I know. I've had many influential people in my life teach me about giving. I don't even think they were necessarily meaning to teach me, but I just learned by their example. I want to share some of the things I've learned from watching some wonderful givers over the past couple of years.
This Easter I am overwhelmed with how blessed I am. God has been so good to me and I don't deserve ANY of it. Today, most of us are celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. I am so thankful for the sacrifice Jesus made for me on the cross. I deserve Hell, but he had so much love, mercy, and grace that he paid the price for MY sins. He died the worst possible death for me and for you so we can have a home in Heaven. My husband preached a sermon about the cross last month and I have been thinking about it this week as I've been meditating on the cross. Here's a couple of notes from his sermon:
He became poor, so that we might become rich.
He went hungry, so that we might be filled.
He grew weary, so that we might have rest.
He gave up Heaven, so that we might enjoy Heaven.
He gave up all comfort, so that we might be comforted.
He was thirsty, so that we might have the living water.
He wept, so that we might rejoice.
He was wounded, so that we might be healed.
He died, so that we might live.
God has given me the ultimate blessing of Heaven, but He didn't just stop there. He has also blessed me with an amazing husband, a sweet baby boy, a wonderful family, a beautiful house, a great church, a rewarding job, good health, and on and on....God has been good in my life! I know He's been good in your life too! He has given us way more than we deserve, that's for sure! If you don't Jesus as your personal Savior, please read my Faith section and it will tell you exactly how to make sure you can have a home in Heaven.
Happy Resurrection Sunday from my family to yours!
