Excuses, Excuses

 photo excuse.jpg

One of my favorite sayings is, "Excuses are like armpits, everyone has them and they all stink!" So many people have excuses on why they "can't" do this or that...but I would say most of the time, when there is a will, there is a way!

Today in church my Pastor preached about soul-winning, and I'll be honest, I have slacked in that area since becoming a Mom. I haven't went out soul-winning since I was pregnant, so I was SUPER convicted during the sermon. There was a teenage boy visiting in the second row with a new family that just joined the church. The Holy Spirit told me to go witness to him right when the invitation started, and I fought with the Holy Spirit for about 5 minutes during the sermon. I made EXCUSES to myself, "Don't go embarrass him in the front row, by asking him to talk with you about Heaven." "He probably is already saved." "I'm sure the family he's with already witnessed to him." Well after thinking those thoughts, I finally said "Lauren, JUST GO!!!" So, when the piano started playing, I prayed all the way down the aisle... and then I got to teenager and asked him if he had ever been shown how to go Heaven, and to my surprise he said no! So, I asked him if he wanted me to show him, and to my surprise again, he said YES! I sat right there and showed him through the Bible how to be saved! He sweetly bowed his head and asked Jesus to save him! As I went back to my seat, I thought, WOW, if I had listened to my excuses, who knows if that young man would have ever gotten saved! I'm glad I listened to the Holy Spirit, instead of my excuses!

So now allow me to discredit some of the most popular excuses I hear on why ladies can't be fashionable and modest.

1. "I can't afford it" I probably hear this excuse the most! This is a very bad excuse...because I am most definitely not rich and I try my best to be a good steward of what God has given me. I only shop at thrift stores, clearance racks, or TJMaxx/Ross! I have done several posts on how to shop frugally and get great clothes!

2. "I'm plus-sized and I can't look as cute as skinny girls." Well this is DEFINITELY not true. I know many adorable plus sized ladies, who look cuter than most thin girls! It's all about the effort you put into your look!

3. "I'm too busy to care" or "I'm a stay at home Mom." Ladies, we are the daughters of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! Princess Kate Middleton always cares about how she looks, because she is representing her Monarchy. We are walking, talking representatives of Christ. Let's look first class, and have some confidence! God made us in His image. Let's glorify Him in all we do including our appearance!

4. "I need to lose weight" I absolutely understand this one! It's hard to feel confident when you are still carrying that baby weight or you just need to lose 20 or so lbs. I truly believe if every one asked the Holy Spirit to help them with controlling their weight, He will!

I hope these posts help you!! I love to make women feel beautiful!

Here's my outfit today! I love love love Houndstooth! It's such a classy pattern! I paired my houndstooth coat from TJMaxx with my a-line black dress from JCPenney and my red heels I got from Goodwill. I felt like a million bucks, but it was so cheap! ;)

  2. That's great that that boy got saved! I'm sure it was hard to go over there and make yourself talk to him. And you're right about the excuses women give. Those aren't valid at all! lol I know because my daddy's a preacher, so he's never made a lot of money, but I can still be fashionable and frugal!

  3. Thanks for sharing about your soulwinning experience, I am going through the same thing right now. I don't know why it makes me so nervous! I hate that. Prayers for us both---Rebecca

  4. I love this! I'm glad that you went down and prayed with this little boy! God is GOOD! Praise the Lord the angels in Heaven are singing!
I love all of your tips, and yes I agree anyone can dress modest. Once you start finding trendy and name brand clothes at Goodwill, you won't want to pay full price in the big stores.
    God bless you sister!
